Tips: Direct Mail

Planning a mailing soon? Below are some tips to increase your response rates when doing a business to business mailing.

  1. Use a current mailing list. Some list companies update their databases monthly, others do so less frequently.
  2. Prior to using a mailing list, look it over to make sure everything looks as expected. It's best to catch errors prior to the mailing.
  3. Target your mailing to those companies most likely to purchase your services. Businesses can be targeted by:
      * Business type (headquarters, single locations and branches)
      * Revenue size
      * Employee size
      * Industry specification (Using SIC codes or Yellow Page headings)
  4. Include a response mechanism with the direct mail piece, such as a reply card.
  5. Provide some reason to respond immediately, such as a limited time price offer.
  6. Explore your options regarding postage. Often you can qualify for presorted rates, which could save you close to 50 percent on postage.
