Tips: Special Event Planning

Special events can be powerful marketing and public relations tools. Below are planning tips you can apply to all events, including banquets, anniversary celebrations and grand openings.

  1. Start by identifying the audiences you hope to reach with your event. Then develop an event plan that targets these groups.
  2. Prepare for contingencies such as inclement weather. Did you know it is possible to purchase rain insurance for outdoor events?
  3. Add 20 percent to your budget for things that will come up unexpectedly.
  4. Be creative in how you market the event whether it's through personal invitations, advertising, publicity or some other way.
  5. Evaluate your event to determine what went right and what could be improved next time.
